式辞
皆様、富山大学への入学、誠におめでとうございます。教職員を代表して式辞を述べさせていただきます。また、御来賓の方々には、御多忙の中、御臨席を賜り厚く御礼申し上げます。本日、令和８年度入学式において、人文学部208名、理学部219名、医学部193名、薬学部108名、英皇娱乐集团170名、合計898名の皆さんを富山大学にお迎えすることができました。 皆さんとの新しい出会いの日を迎えること、私ども大学の教職員にとっては大きな喜びであり、富山大学を代表し、心よりお祝いを申し上げます。なお、通常ですと、９学部の入学生ならびに大学院の入学生が一同に会して入学式を行なうのですが、例年使用している会場である富山市総合体育館が現在工事中ですので、本日は５学部の入学生の出席となっています。皆様以外にも教育学部、経済学部、工学部、芸術文化学部の学生が、本日、入学式を迎えます。
Since we have international students here today, I would like to give a short congratulatory message also in English. First of all, as the president of the University of Toyama, I welcome you all and give my warmest congratulations. Today, at the Entrance Ceremony for the academic year 2026, we are pleased to welcome a total of 898 new students to the University of Toyama: 208 students in the School of Humanities, 219 in the School of Science, 193 in the School of Medicine, 108 in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, and 170 in the School of Sustainable Design. Every year, this ceremony is held jointly for undergraduate and graduate students. However, as the Toyama City Gymnasium is currently under renovation, we regret that this year’s ceremony is limited to graduates of the five schools. I kindly ask for your understanding.
まず最初に皆さんが入学された富山大学につき紹介させていただきます。富山大学は、文系学部として人文学部、教育学部、経済学部、文理融合学部として芸術文化学部、英皇娱乐集团があり、理系学部として理学部、工学部、医学部、薬学部があり、これらを合わせて９学部を有しています。富山大学は、学部学生数7,947名、修士学生数1,037名、博士課程学生数357名、計9,200名余の学生と2,300名余の教職員が集う総合国立大学です。 富山大学の原点は、現在の教育学部の前身となる新川県師範学校が発足した1875年／明治８年に遡ります。その後2005年、当時の富山県内の３つの国立大学（富山大学、富山医科薬科大学、高岡短期大学）が統合し、現在の富山大学が誕生しました。本年が統合後21年となり、学部間の融合教育、融合研究が進んできています。
University of Toyama has nine schools: the School of Humanities, the School of Education, the School of Economics, the School of Arts and Design, the School of Engineering, the School of Science, the School of Medicine, the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, and the School of Sustainable Design. There are about 9,200 students and about 2,300 faculty members. Our university was established in 1875. After that, Toyama University, Toyama Medical and Pharmaceutical University and Takaoka National College were integrated and was established to University of Toyama in 2005. This year marks the 21th year since the merger, and the integration of education and research between the schools has been progressing.
皆さんは、本日、富山大学に入学されたのですが、高校教育と大学教育は大きく異なっている事を御存知でしょうか。高校では「授業」といいますが、大学では「講義」といいます。授業は「なりわいを授ける」という事で、生活するために必要な知識を教師から教えていただきます。学習指導要項があり、教える内容の上限も決まっていて、それ以上難しい事は教えることが出来ません。大学で行なう「講義」は、講は会場という意味ですが、義は我の上に羊があります。羊は中国では美しいという意味があり、自分を美しくするという意味になります。多くの事を学んで、自分の知識として留め込み、それを社会のために活用し、皆さんを大きく成長させるのが講義です。従って教える内容の最低限のレベルであるコアカリキュラムはありますが、教える内容に上限はありません。また教師が一方的に教えるのではなく、教員もみなさんと共に学び合うという学習になることを理解して下さい。 皆さんも富山大学在学中に多くの事を学び、自分の得意な分野で自らを磨き、高いレベルで学問を極めていただきたいと思います。個性を伸ばす事はとても重要です。
Although you have officially entered the university today, you may not yet fully realize how different university education is from high school education. In high school, classes are referred to as “lessons,” while at university they are called “lectures.” High school lessons are designed to provide the essential knowledge needed for daily life, based on a national curriculum with clearly defined limits. University lectures, on the other hand, emphasize learning without an upper boundary. While there is a core curriculum that defines the minimum level of instruction, university education encourages students to absorb knowledge, make it their own, and apply it for the benefit of society and personal growth. University learning is not a one?way process in which instructors simply teach; rather, it is a shared learning experience in which faculty and students learn together. I hope you will keep this in mind as you begin your studies.
さて、みなさんが実感しておられるように、社会が大きく変化しています。この変化に対応するために国立大学協会では国立大学の大きな改革を目指しています。国立大学法人等改革基本方針では、①不確実な社会を切り開く世界最高水準の研究とイノベーションの牽引、②変化する社会ニーズに応じた大学院教育による高度専門人材の育成、③地域社会を先導する人材の育成と地域産業の振興の３つが、国立大学に求められています。これらの人材を育成するため、富山大学が行なっている教育について、私から説明いたします。
As you are already aware, society is undergoing rapid and profound changes. In response, national universities in Japan are pursuing major reforms. Under the Basic Policy for Reform of National University Corporations, universities are expected to: lead world?class research and innovation to navigate an uncertain society, cultivate highly specialized professionals through graduate education that responds to changing societal needs, and develop human resources who contribute to regional communities and promote local industries. Allow me to explain how the University of Toyama is structuring its education to foster such individuals.
学部入学生は、まず、１年生の教養教育を英皇娱乐集团で一元化して行いますので、９学部の学生が混ざり合って学ぶこととなります。このことが、多様性を認め合い、相互理解できる人材育成につながります。 富山大学では、教育の３本柱として、①データサイエンス?AI教育、②英語教育、③課題解決型教育を掲げています。それぞれが必修科目となっていますので、必ず学習して下さい。その他、学部教育の入門教育も加わりますので、各学部生毎に入門教育を受けて下さい。加えて、分野別科目として、自然科学分野、社会科学分野、人文科学分野の講義も設けています。皆さんは必修の科目に加えて、自分の興味のある科目を選択して教養を深めていただく事になります。
All first?year undergraduate students begin with a unified liberal arts education at the Gofuku Campus, where students from all nine faculties study together. This environment promotes mutual understanding and respect for diversity, nurturing individuals who can thrive in a complex society. University of Toyama has established three core pillars of education: data science and AI education, English education, and problem?based learning. All three are required subjects, and I encourage you to engage with them seriously. In addition, each faculty provides introductory courses in its specialized fields, and students are expected to complete these as well. We also offer courses across the fields of natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities. Beyond your required subjects, I encourage you to choose courses that align with your interests and broaden your intellectual horizons.
まず、課題解決型教育では、解決すべき課題を異なる学部の仲間と話し合い、自分達の意見を出し合い、教員の意見を参考にしながら、みんなで具体策を立案するという形の講義です。これらの経験は社会に出てから必要になりますので、積極的にディスカッションに参加して下さい。だまっていれば、学習にならないので、自分の意見を出してディスカッションして下さい。
Problem?based learning involves identifying real?world challenges, discussing them with students from different faculties, exchanging ideas, and formulating concrete solutions with guidance from instructors. These experiences are essential for your future careers, so I encourage you to actively participate in discussions.
もう一つの強化項目はデータサイエンス?AI教育です。高校での情報が大学ではデータサイエンスと呼ばれており、現代の大学教育において非常に重要な分野となっています。データサイエンスは理系の科目と誤解されているかもしれませんが、理系の学生も文系の学生もデータサイエンスは必要です。富山大学は、すべての学生にデータサイエンスを学ぶ体制に６年前から変えており、成果が出ています。データサイエンスの基本は、データを収集し、それらを数理学的手法により解析します。その後、課題を抽出し、解決策を見出し、プレゼンテーションし、課題解決のため行動するという一連の過程もデータサイエンスに含まれます。通常の講義は座学となりますが、実学としてデータサイエンスを活用して社会の課題を解決する手法を学ぶ、データサイエンス寄附講座を経済学部に開講しています。どの学部の学生も参加できるので、ぜひとも受講してみて下さい。日本も含めて世界中でDX化の促進のため、データサイエンス?AI人材が求められていますので、きっと大学で学んだことが将来、企業や病院や行政機関、金融機関等での仕事に活かされると思います。
Another major focus is data science and AI education. What you studied as information technology in high school is referred to as data science at the university level and has become a crucial field in modern education. it is equally important for students in the humanities and social sciences. Six years ago, University of Toyama restructured its curriculum so that all students learn data science, and we are now seeing positive results. Data science is a series of processes that involves not only collecting data and analyzing them using mathematical methods, but also identifying issues, finding solutions, presenting them in a way that many people can understand, and taking action to solve problems. Also, the School of Economics offers a data science class in which students from any school can participate. This is a practical education program in which students from several schools, faculty members with a deep knowledge of data science, and company employees work together to solve problems brought to them by companies and local governments in Toyama Prefecture from the standpoint of data science. I am sure that what I learned at the university will be useful in the future, especially since data science personnel are in high demand in Japan to promote DX.
三つ目の強化項目が英語教育の充実です。世界がグローバル化し、Webにより海外の人々と簡単に会話ができるようになったため、英会話は、社会人になってからビジネスや研究を行なう上で極めて重要となります。15年後の世界では、人々は自由に世界中を移動し、まるで国境がないような、グローバル社会になる事が予想されています。そのため、国立大学協会では15年後の2040年には在学生の30％を外国人留学生とする目標を立てています。つまり大学内は、世界中からの留学生が集い、大学は多様な文化や価値観を共有するグローバルな教育機関になっていきます。そのために日本人学生の英語教育の充実は是非とも必要です。１年生の皆様は、入学直後にTOEIC試験を受けていただき、現時点での英会話能力を判定します。大学で英語を学習した後、12月頃に再度TOEIC試験を行い、上達度をチェックします。これらの費用はすべて大学で負担いたします。昨年度、一昨年度はともに、試験の点数が大きく向上しました。３年生、４年生になった際にも再度TOEIC試験を行い、１年生と比較して英会話の上達度を確認しますので、継続的に英会話を学習して下さい。成績優秀で希望者には、春休みを利用して、富山大学の連携校である海外の４つの大学へ短期入学していただき、海外の文化や教育に触れる機会を提供いたします。海外留学支援として、最大７０名までに、富山大学基金から１名あたり１０万円の海外留学の補助をさせていただきます。ぜひとも短期海外研修にチャレンジして下さい。さらに高学年になってからの海外研修についても大学が支援しています。英語が苦手な方も、頑張って成績を向上させ、短期海外留学にチャレンジしてみませんか。 この教育の３本柱に加えて、各学部の専門分野を学ぶことで、入学生の皆さんは人間的に大きく成長し、先の見えないような不安定な社会状況でも、多くの国内外の仲間と協力し合い、種々の課題を解決できる人材に育つと確信しています。
The third item to be strengthened is the enhancement of English language education. With the advance of globalization and easy videoconferencing, English conversation is essential in business and research. National universities aim to have 30% international students by 2040, making them global institutions. To improve English skills, all first-year students at University of Toyama take the TOEIC test upon entry and again in December to track progress, with costs covered by the university. Scores have improved significantly in recent years. High-achieving students can study abroad at affiliated universities during spring break, with up to 70 students receiving a 100,000 yen subsidy. The President’s Discretionary Allowance also supports overseas study after the senior year. We encourage students to take on the challenge of studying abroad.
ここまで勉学の事につき述べてきましたが、大学生活は勉強だけではありません。しっかりと未来の自分がどのような人物になるのか、なりたいのかを考えて下さい。それを実現させるには、どうすれば良いのかも考えて実践して下さい。これらの事を考える時間を持つ事が重要で、自らの意思で自分の人生を切り開いて下さい。また、高校時代に十分に取れなかった時間を使って、読書、映画鑑賞、国内外旅行、地域のイベントへの参加などを行なっていただき、いろいろな分野での教養を身につけて下さい。余暇の使い方も、とても重要です。
Through these three educational pillars, combined with specialized study in your respective faculties, I am confident that you will grow not only academically but also as individuals capable of working with diverse peers, both in Japan and internationally, to address complex societal challenges. While I have spoken at length about academics, university life is about more than just studying. Take time to reflect on who you wish to become in the future and how you can realize that vision. Use this opportunity to read, watch films, travel domestically and abroad, and participate in local events to broaden your perspectives. How you spend your free time is also crucial to your growth.
その他、大学での課外活動は、学生の成長やキャリアにおいて非常に重要な役割を果たしますので、体育系でも文化系でも、いずれでも構いませんので、クラブに入る事を考えて下さい。 課外活動では、リーダーシップ、チームワーク、コミュニケーション能力など講義では学べない実践的なスキルを身につける事が出来ます。他学部の学生との交流、富山大学に在籍する約３５０人の海外留学生との交流、先輩との交流、教職員との交流により、交友関係を是非とも深めて下さい。皆さんも、積極的に課外活動に取り組んでいただき、充実した学生生活を送って下さい。
Extracurricular activities play a vital role in student development and career formation. Whether in sports or cultural organizations, I encourage you to consider joining a club. Extracurricular activities allow students to acquire practical skills such as leadership, teamwork, and communication skills that cannot be learned in lectures. We encourage you to deepen your friendships by interacting with students from other faculties, with the approximately 350 international students enrolled at the University of Toyama, with your seniors, and with the faculty and staff. We encourage you to be actively involved in extracurricular activities in the athletic or cultural fields.
私は、富山大学を「みんなで創ろう、おもしろい大学」にしたいと思っています。これから皆様と一緒に学ぶことの「おもしろさ」を実感していただけるよう、我々教職員は全力で支援いたしますので、是非とも充実したおもしろい学生生活を送ってください。自分の人生は自分自身で切り開くものです。富山大学在学中に自分自身を磨き、どのような職に就いてどのような社会貢献ができるかを考えてみて下さい。また、ご家族の皆様には、お子さんの自立性を尊重しつつ、成長を見守り、応援していただきたいと思います。 皆さんの学生生活が、実り多いものになり、おもしろい大学生活となることを祈念し、式辞といたします。
I would like to make our university to “Omoshiroi University Life” which means interesting, that we can all create together. We, the faculty and staff, will do our best to support you so that you can experience the “fun” of learning together with us, and I hope that you will enjoy a fulfilling student life. Each of you has the responsibility to shape your own life. While studying at the University of Toyama, take this opportunity to develop yourself fully, and reflect on the career you aspire to and the ways in which you can serve and contribute to society. We also ask that you, as families, respect the independence of your children and watch over and support their growth. I would like to conclude my address by wishing you all a fruitful and productive student life. Thank you.
